An oak framed extension and new outbuildings for a listed property in Hereford.
We collaborated closely with the client to refine the architectural brief, taking into account the unique characteristics of the site. This included considering the main property's grade 2 listed status, its location in a conservation area, and its proximity to protected trees. By understanding these key elements, we were able to develop a design that not only met the client's needs but also respected the historical and environmental context of the site.
Our design approach was centered around creating a minimalist extension that complemented the existing house. We opted for a restrained selection of natural materials, such as brick, oak, and slate, to ensure that the new structure harmonized with the traditional aesthetics of the property. This careful choice of materials helped to create a seamless transition between the old and new parts of the building, enhancing the overall visual appeal.
The extension was conceived with dual functionality in mind, serving both as a utility area and a conservatory. This design decision was made to not only maximize the usable space but also to strengthen the connection between the interior kitchen space and the outdoor garden. By creating a space that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor elements, we aimed to enhance the living experience for the occupants and create a harmonious relationship between the built environment and nature.
